The Karate Kid

The original movie, The Karate Kid was made in 1984 and 24 years later it still makes an impact on kids! We watched it last night as a family and the boys loved it! We had to pause it a few times b/c we were laughing so hard. Yep, laughing. I suggest you all watch it again so you get the full effect as to what I'm describing.

First, Ryan thinks that old station wagons are limosines! Daniel (Son) wears his pants up really high, just like Ryan. Daniel gets beat up b/c he's the new kid at school and at the halloween school dance, Daniel goes as a shower with a curtain hiding him. The mean boys are dressed as a group of skeletons. Daniel plays a joke on one and gets chased and beat up. Just as he is about to get his final blow, Mister Miagi jumps in and Cavan says, ohh, a Chinese man killing skeletons! We about wet our pants at that. It's a rare occassion to see Bryce laugh so hard, which was funnier.
Then at the end of the movie, you know, they are at the tournament. Daniel is doing really good, but then it's him against his bully, and he's got a busted knee. There are some really good blows to each of them. Suspense is building. The final kick is Daniel Son using Mister Miagi's crane kick, you know it. Bam! Kicks Johnny the bully right in the nose and takes him down!

All that to say to tell you that Ryan starts to laugh but then he starts to cry! he is laughing and crying! So, we start laughing too but don't know why he is crying! Stop the movie and he tells us that he is laughing so hard (it's making him cry) b/c Johnny (the bully) fell to his knees and sticks his butt up in the air and crawls around with his butt in the air! I think he is crying b/c he was really afraid that Daniel was going to loose, but Ryan really hoping Daniel won! I think it was so suspenseful for him!

The fact that they laugh at some of the fighting made us realize that they have really been desensitized to it by playing video games and watching newer movies where the special effects are so great. Last week they laughed at the end of Indiana Jones where the faces melt!
